New Zealand government Announced Border Restrictions

The New Zealand government has taken an extraordinary turn in large-scale sports events. The plans for Super Rugby Pacific and Phoenix A-League for Men's and Women's may be interrupted.

Sports organizations struggled to find clarity after the government announced its three-phase reopening plan for the border yesterday.

From January 17th, fully vaccinated New Zealanders returning from Australia will be able to skip the isolation period to self-isolate. From February 14th, fully vaccinated New Zealanders can visit most other countries and undergo home quarantine upon return.

From April 30th, New Zealand will begin to reopen to all foreigners who have been vaccinated, not just New Zealand citizens or residents.

Several Australian teams are scheduled to compete in New Zealand in late January, February, and March. Even if they are permitted to enter, they will face a 7-day quarantine period, which will have a significant impact on the weekly events.

Super Rugby Pacific has arranged for the Australian team to play in New Zealand in February and March, and vice versa. For the second round, all teams will play in Melbourne.
