Western Force is a professional Australian rugby union team located in Perth. Most recently, Force will play in Super Rugby AU 2021 and Super Rugby Trans-Tasman 2021. In the 2021 Super Rugby AU tournament, Force played well and won four matches out of eight, while in Super Rugby Trans Tasman, they were unable to win any game. The Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition included five Super Rugby AU teams and five Super Rugby Aotearoa teams.

The future of Super Rugby is uncertain, but people have been discussing 12 team games starting in the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific. The competition will include the full-time return of the Western Force, which will play with the other four Australian Super Rugby teams; five New Zealand teams, one Fijian team, and the Pacific Islander team Moana Pasifika for legacy.

The Melbourne Rebels is a professional Australian Rugby union team situated in Melbourne. In 2011, they first played in SANZAR's Super Rugby competition. They were the first privately owned professional rugby union Australian team until shares in the franchise were returned to Victorian Rugby Union in 2017. The club has the same name as the former Australian Rugby Championship team, but it is not related. The team home games were held at AAMI Park.

In 2021, the Rebels played in the Super Rugby AU and the Super Rugby trans-Tasman. In Super Rugby AU, the Rebels missed the playoffs, with three wins, and five losses. At the end of the Super Rugby AU tournament, the Australian team will face the New Zealand team for five rounds in the Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition. After failing to qualify for the playoffs, head coach David Wessels stepped down and was temporarily replaced by assistant Kevin Foote for the rest of the season. Although Rebels failed to win any of their Trans-Tasman games, they ended up ranking 9th, only in points. The Waratahs were poorly ahead and didn't get any bonus points. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria, Rebels once again spent most of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman games on the road. Rebels' were played the last three games in Leichhardt Oval in Sydney.
