Hurricanes VS Moana Pasifika DHL Super Rugby Pacific fourth-round Delayed due to Covid-19

The Hurricanes VS Moana Pasifika DHL Super Rugby Pacific fourth-round match at Sky Wellington Stadium on Saturday 12 March has been postponed due to the impact of COVID-19 on the home team's player pool.

The postponement follows the recommendation of the DHL Super Rugby Pacific Medical Advisory group that the Hurricanes do not have enough players to make up the 23rd round.

Chris Lendrum New Zealand Rugby general manager said it was unacceptable for both teams, especially Moana Pasifika, who are struggling with their third postponed match of the season.

"We have done everything we can to play this game, but despite considering alternatives, the number of players affected by COVID was very high, and the right decision was made.

Hurricanes chief executive Avan Lee said the extension ended a difficult few weeks for the club.

"We were disappointed with our Sky Super Rugby Aupiki Hurricanes Poua team when they were forced out of the opening game, and now our men's team has to deal with their disappointment. I think it shows how COVID still impacts people.

"We are also upset with Moana Pasifika, who has faced this situation two times this season. We appreciate their understanding and look forward to meeting them later in the season."

Pelenato Sakalia, CEO of Moana Pasifika, said: “Dealing with Covid is difficult, and it is important that the focus shifts to the health and wellbeing of the Hurricanes. Postponing the game was the right decision given the current situation, and Moana Pasifika wishes the Hurricanes a speedy recovery and looks forward to They'll get back on the field as soon as possible."
