Waikato Chiefs Team Squads & Fixtures

 

The Waikato Chiefs are a professional rugby union team in New Zealand called Chiefs. They are located in Hamilton, New Zealand, and represent the Thames Valley, Waikato, Counties Manukau, King Country, and Bay of Plenty unions.
They played in the Super Rugby tournament Super 12 till 2005 and then in 2010 in Super 14 and from 2011-2015 played in Super 15.

Chiefs were the least successful of the five New Zealand teams in the starting years of Super Rugby. From the first competition in 1996 to 2003, the Chiefs were the only New Zealand team that did not qualify for the semi-finals of the Super 12.

The Chiefs finally won their first semi-final place in 2004. Although they were defeated by ACT Brumbies 37-20 in the semi-final, they ranked fourth.

The best year ever for the Chiefs was 2012 when they played in the final and defeated the Sharks by a score of 37-6. In 2013, the Chiefs won their second Super Rugby Championship.
