Highlanders vs Crusaders will Play in Farmlands Cup 2022

It's one of Super Rugby's most cherished competitions - the Highlanders and Crusaders will compete for dominance in the South Island in the New Year.

The two sides rarely leave their home bases in Christchurch or Dunedin because of the fight with each other, but the Farmlands Cooperative allows them to connect with the rural communities of the South Island each summer.  Next year in February, the Farmland Cup will be launched for the seventh time since 2016

After the competition for the coveted silverware in Waimumu, Darfield, Southbridge, Wanaka, and Temuka, a new chapter will be written in the storied history of the Crusaders vs. Highlanders competition, when the 2022 Farmlands Cup breaks new ground.

Since the establishment of the trophy, Farmlands will bring the Crusaders and Highlanders to North Otago for the first time on February 4, 2022, for a pre-season matchup at the Weston Valley Rugby Club, 6 kilometers from Oamaru.

After being defeated by Brett Cameron on a penalty kick in this year's game in Temuka, the Highlanders will have another chance to try to win the Farmland Cup from the Crusaders.

By doing so, the organizers ensured that the Crusaders kept the Farmland Cup for the fourth consecutive year, which is the winning streak that the Highlanders are eager to achieve in front of the home audience.

Highlanders head coach Tony Brown said, North Otago is known for its interest in rugby and we see it every year at the Heartland Championships,"

"Having the chance to fight our great South Island opponent Crusaders in their patch will be a great way to start the new season. I know our entire club will look forward to this event."

Crusader coach Scott Robertson is also excited about returning to the heart of the South Island.

"The Farmland Cup has always been a super rugby event in the region," he said.
